Civic Centre campaign hits $3 million - Posted on 2009-03-31

ST. STEPHEN - The Charlotte County Civic Centre Fundraising Campaign
has hit the $3 million mark, co-chairs Norah and Peter Heelis
announced Tuesday morning.
"This is just a step along the way," Peter Heelis said.
"It's exciting, it's even exhilarating. But it's just another
milepost in our continuing effort to reach our final goal of $3.5
million. We are proud of our many volunteers and deeply appreciate
their hard work and dedication in bringing us this far."
He said there's still plenty of work for the volunteer fundraisers to
do.
"No race is won until the finish line is crossed. We still have
another half a million to raise. We know it can be done," he said. He's
putting the push on for potential donors. "It's time for everyone to
step up," Heelis said. "It's time to
become a part of this awesome project and to buy into the future of
our community."

Norah Heelis said it's been an exciting few weeks for the project,
including a location announcement and progress on securing government
funding.
"The last few weeks have been exciting," she said.
"Government funding on all three levels has been all but finalized
and the starting date looks to be a matter of months rather than years."
But first the local fundraising goal must be met. "We all must remember
that everything we've done as a community over
the last three years will come to nothing unless the fundraising
campaign is successfully completed. This is the goal we must
concentrate on now. Let's not drop the ball. Let's give it that
extra effort and Make It Happen," she said.
