Steven C. Backman Dip. Agr.; DVM; Dip.Ant. Path.
Dr. Backman received his Agriculture Diploma from the Nova Scotia Agriculture College in 1982 and then continued his education at the Ontario Veterinary College, earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 1987. Upon completion of his DVM he accepted a position with the Ontario Veterinary College as Extension and Research Officer in the Department of Pathology and Microbiology where he also began graduate studies in anatomical pathology. In 1988 Dr. Backman accepted the position of Technical Services Veterinarian for a major international aquaculture feed supply company and is now responsible for hatchery and marine species sales
for eastern North America and the Caribbean. Dr. Backman is the founding president of the Canadian Association of Aquatic Veterinarians, and continues to be active in professional associations and several community organizations. He serves on the Fish Health Technical Committee advising the NB Provincial Minister of Agriculture, and Aquaculture and is a former Town Councilor for the Town of St. Stephen. Working as a volunteer for the CCCC as a member of the Board of Directors, member of the campaign cabinet and Chair of the Special Gifts Division. Dr. Backman is also currently president of the Charlotte County Hospital Board of Trustees, treasurer of a local Masonic Lodge, and Past-president of the Shark Attack Competitive Swim Club. He is also president of Magellan Aqua Farms Inc. He is happily married with one son.
